Long wooden kanga comb for Kundalini practice
Kanga – Long Wooden Comb | Traditional Hair Care & Kundalini Practice
$14.00

Care for your hair with intention using the Long Kanga, a traditional wooden comb designed to support daily discipline, clarity, and conscious living.

  • Wooden teeth for gentle, natural hair care
  • Long design ideal for longer or thicker hair
  • Helps reduce static and breakage
  • Durable and easy to use daily

The Kanga is used as part of a disciplined daily routine, supporting cleanliness, order, and self-care. Simple in form, it reflects a deeper respect for the body and a commitment to conscious living.

These long Kangas are rarely used under the turban due to their larger size. However, they are an important part of the daily hair care routine of both Sikhs and Kundalini yogis.

The symbolism of the Kanga relates to the principle of having a clean mind and body. In addition, it represents the importance of discipline. Long hair needs to be combed through thoroughly twice a day. This regular ritual further translates into a reminder to keep one's life organised and orderly. The teachings emphasise remembering that the body is our vehicle to enlightenment and hence should be respected and well cared for.

The Kangas are made of 'neem' wood (Azadirachta indica - commonly known as nimtree, or Indian lilac) which is native to the Indian subcontinent. All parts of the tree are widely used medicinally. This is why the use of these wooden combs is believed to control hair loss, dandruff and other scalp problems.

Here is a link to more information on this amazing tree: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Azadirachta_indica

We also stock the small version of Kanga which is traditionally kept under the turban.

This Kanga aligns particularly well with the symbolism. It is kept in the hair behind the Rishi knot on top of the head. Hence, when not in use it is still always available when required.
