Wooden Kanga comb for daily discipline
Kanga – Wooden Comb | Traditional Hair Care Tool
$12.00

Care for your hair with awareness, reverence, and intention using the Kanga—a traditional wooden comb that supports daily discipline and a clear, steady presence.

  • Wooden teeth for gentle, natural hair care
  • Helps maintain tidy, well-kept hair with ease
  • Compact and practical for daily use
  • Encourages consistency, care, and self-respect

The Kanga is a traditional symbol of discipline and order, reminding us to care for the body as a vessel of energy and higher consciousness. Regular use supports cleanliness and organisation—both outwardly and within.

Kept close to the body as part of daily practice, it becomes more than a tool—it is a quiet anchor for presence, projection, and conscious living, cultivating a sense of equanimity and respect through simple, repeated action.

Hair should be combed through twice a day to keep it disentangled and tidy. This principle also translates into a reminder to keep one's life organised and orderly. Furthermore, the body is said to be one's vehicle to enlightenment and hence should be cared for appropriately.

The sacred Kanga is kept in the hair behind the Rishi knot on top of the head. It is kept there under the turban, when not in use but always available when required.

The Kanga is made of 'neem' wood (Azadirachta indica - commonly known as nimtree or Indian lilac) which is native to the Indian subcontinent. All parts of the tree are widely used medicinally. This is why the use of these wooden combs is believed to control hair loss, dandruff and other scalp problems.

Wikipedia has extensive information on this amazing plant and its traditional uses:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Azadirachta_indica

We also stock the larger version of kanga which is not intended for use under the turban but rather part of daily hair care.
